Spc. Phillip S. Bullins
May 23, 1988 - November 26, 2011SPC. Phillip Scott Bullins, 23, of Carthage died Saturday, November 26, 2011 in an automobile accident at Schofield Barracks, Hawaii. Phillip was born May 23, 1988 in Pinehurst, NC.
Funeral services will be 11:00 AM Tuesday (December 6) at Union Presbyterian Church. Burial will follow with full military honors at Priest Hill Presbyterian Church Cemetery.
He had numerous passions in life which included sports, spending time with family and friends and serving his country. Phillip graduated Union Pines High School in 2006. He played on the baseball team throughout his high school career and loved the UNC Tar-heels. His smile brightened any room he entered and his sense of humor and compassion for others will be deeply missed by many.
Phillip joined the United States Army in September 10th of 2009 where he served in Operation Iraqi Freedom and Operation New Dawn from June of 2010 till June of 2011. He was a member of A Company 1 Battalion, 27th Infantry Regiment, 2nd Brigade Combat Team, 25th Infantry Division and was stationed at Schofield Barracks in Hawaii. Phillip served as an infantryman and Stryker armored vehicle driver. He received several awards and decorations include The Army Commendation Medal and the Combat Infantryman's Badge, the National Defense Service Ribbon, Overseas Service Ribbon, Iraqi Campaign Medal with Bronze Star, and the Army Service Ribbon.
He is survived by his mother Pam Starr of Carthage, NC, his father Ricky Bullins of Carthage, NC, and brother Michael Bullins of Carthage, NC; grandparents Mary Lou Starr of Carthage, NC, Gib and Lorraine Cummings of Carthage, NC, great-grandmother Ada Short of Lakeview, NC and long time family friend Lester Smith of Robbins, NC; uncles and aunts Tom and Lynne Bullins of Carthage, NC, Lisa and David Hart of Carthage, NC, Timmy and Morgan Bullins of Carthage, NC and Beth and Dan Evans of Lakeview, NC; cousins Mackenzie Greene of Carthage, NC, Bailey Bullins of Carthage, NC, Magan Hart of Carthage, NC and Abigail Bullins of Lakeview, NC. He is preceded in death by his grandfather Larry J. Starr of Carthage, NC and Jeff Bullins of Lakeview, NC.
The family will recieve friends at Fry and Prickett Funeral Home on Monday from 6:00-8:00 PM and other times at either parents residence.
