Helen Schaupp Kingsolver, age 92, died June 27, 2019.

A Memorial service will be 11:00 AM, Saturday, August 3, 2019 at Brownson Memorial Presbyterian Church, Southern Pines, NC

Helen was born October 9, 1926 in West Lafayette, IN.  She attended Purdue University, where she was a member of Kappa Kappa Gamma Sorority.  It was at Purdue that she met her future husband, Bill Kingsolver. Shortly after graduation, they married and moved to Madison, WI. During Bill’s corporate life, they lived in Milwaukee, WI; Dallas, TX; Pittsburg, PA and Berrington, IL.  Upon Bill’s retirement, they moved to the Country Club of North Carolina in Pinehurst.

Helen was always active in her community.  In Pittsburg, she was a volunteer at the state mental hospital. In Milwaukee, she taught the blind to be mobile.  She received the Governor's Award on two different occasions, once for her work as a volunteer at the Coalition for Human Care and again for her 11 years of service as a Guardian Ad Litem.  She also tutored for many years.

Helen was active in her church, Brownson Memorial Presbyterian Church. Her service included, starting the archives for the church, being an elder, moderator of the women and Bible leader for her Circle.  In all of these branches of her life, however, Helen was best known for making people laugh with her jokes.

Helen is preceded in death by her husband, Bill Kingsolver, and sisters: Beth Pruet, Virginia Bailey.

She is survived by her children: Anne Sharp, Sue Mokwa, and Gregg Kingsolver; grandchildren: Matt Mokwa, Michelle Widbin, Andy Mokwa, Bill Sharp and Lindsay Haas; 9 great-grandchildren; and brother Jack Schaupp.

Powell Funeral Home is honored to serve the Kingsolver family.
