Ruby Duke Newton, age 92, died Sunday, June 3, 2018 at her residence, surrounded by her family.

A Memorial Service will be held 2 PM, Saturday, June 9, 2018 at Carthage First Baptist Church, where she was a lifelong member, with the Reverend Brian Murphy and Dr. William J Maness, Jr. officiating.  Internment will follow at Cross Hill Cemetery.

A native of Wake County she was the daughter of the late Willie and Birtcha Gay Duke.  She graduated from Wakeland High School in Zebulon and attended Maddox Business School in Raleigh.  Ruby worked in the Procurement Division of the US Treasury Department in Washington, DC. and for Moore County Sheriff Grimm.  She was a member of the D.A.V. Ladies Auxiliary #83 and the Red Hats.  She is preceded in death by her husband, John L. Newton, Sr.; son: John L Newton, Jr. and her siblings.

Ruby is survived by her daughter, Patricia Griner of Carthage and Titusville, Florida; a son, Charles Newton and wife Amy, of Rosman, NC; grandchildren, Stephen Bryan Griner of Titusville, Florida;
 Keith Griner of Titusville, Florida; Laura Rich of North Port, Florida, Bobby Newton and wife Heather, of Seven Lakes, NC; 3 great-grandchildren; many nieces, nephews and friends.

In lieu of flowers, memorials are requested for FirstHealth Hospice, 150 Applecross Road, Pinehurst, NC 28374.
